چکیده

Increasing concentrations of atmospheric C O 2 and other greenhouse gases are expected to contribute to a global warming. This paper examines the potential implications of a climatic change corresponding to a doubling of atmospheric concentrations of CO2 on crop production opportunities throughout Ontario, a major food producing region in Canada. The climate is projected to become warmer and drier, but the extent of these shifts are expected to vary from region to region within Ontario. The effect of this altered climate on crop yields and the area of land capable of supporting specific crops varies according to region, soil quality and crop type. Most notable are the enhanced opportunities for grains and oilseeds in the northern regions, and the diminished production prospects for most crops in the most southerly parts of Ontario.

Optimization of rice (Oryza sativa L.) and subsequent soybean (Glycine max L. Merr) cropping calendars under the climate change conditions using dynamical general circulation models (GCMs) and DSSAT crop model

Climate change and the global warming phenomenon is one of the main concerns of human societies. In this study, the impact of climate change on rice, as the main crop in Guilan province, Iran and soybean production as the second crop was investigated. To adapt to the negative impact of climate change in future, optimal crop calendars were indentified for different rice and soybean cultivars usi...

Projections of uncertainties in climate change scenarios into expected winter wheat yields

The crop model CERES-Wheat in combination with the stochastic weather generator were used to quantify the effect of uncertainties in selected climate change scenarios on the yields of winter wheat, which is the most important European cereal crop. Seven experimental sites with the high quality experimental data were selected in order to evaluate the crop model and to carry out the climate chang...

Simulating crop yield losses in Switzerland for historical and present Tambora climate scenarios

Severe climatic anomalies in summer 1816, partly due to the eruption of Tambora in April 1815, contributed to delayed growth and poor harvests of important crops in Central Europe. Coinciding with adverse socio-economic conditions, this event triggered the last subsistence crisis in the western World. Here, we model reductions in potential crop yields for 1816 and 1817 and address the question,...

Uncertainties in predicting rice yield by current crop models under a wide range of climatic conditions.

Predicting rice (Oryza sativa) productivity under future climates is important for global food security. Ecophysiological crop models in combination with climate model outputs are commonly used in yield prediction, but uncertainties associated with crop models remain largely unquantified. We evaluated 13 rice models against multi-year experimental yield data at four sites with diverse climatic ...

Modelling wheat yield responses to soil and climate variability at the regional scale

We present a study on the impact of soil and climatic variability on the yield of winter wheat in the Hérault-Libron-Orb Valley in southern France. The study was based on the use of a crop simulation model (Euro-ACCESS), run at 63 individual sites throughout the study area, for the current climate (1976 to 1984) and for potential future changes in temperature and precipitation (2047 to 2054). T...
